Ingredients
- ½ cup salt
- 8 onions, thinly sliced
- 2 green peppers, seeded and cut in strips
- 4 cups. sugar
- 4½ cups vinegar
- 4 qt. thinly sliced cucumbers
- 1½ tsp turmeric
- 3½ tsp mustard seeds
- ½ tsp. cloves
Instructions
- Sprinkle salt over sliced vegetables; mix
- Place a tray of ice cubes on top of vegetables.
- Let stand 3 hours.
- Combine sugar, spices, vinegar and heat to boiling.
- Drain cucumbers.
- Pour hot syrup over the cucumbers.
- Heat over low heat to boiling, but do not allow mixture to boil.
- Stir to prevent scorching.
- Place in hot sterilized jars and seal.
- Process in hot water bath for 5 min.
